Evolving Tecton’s Culture & Values

As Tecton co-founders, Kevin and I have always believed in the power of creating a strong culture, with intentional values that define who we are and how we act. We have created our company values with a few unshakable fundamentals in mind: a strong desire to help each other, a willingness to go above and beyond for the customer, a belief that finding the truth is more important than winning an argument, and relentless ambition.

These values serve as our compass, driving our decisions and shaping our interactions. As we continue to grow our mighty Tectonaut (aka Tecton employees) team, our company values truly embody the essence of who we are and how we operate, fostering our culture, and steering us in the right direction.

Value #1: Customer Obsession

Everything starts with our customers—they are the heart and soul of our business. We strive to be hands-down the best partner for our customers on the journey to real-time ML. By maintaining an unwavering focus on our customers, we build trust, forge lasting relationships where we understand their problems end-to-end, and ultimately help them succeed in powering their products with ML.

Value #2: Be an Owner, Not a Renter

We strongly believe in taking ownership of our work and the collective success of our company. We don’t settle for mediocrity; instead, we strive for excellence in everything we do. Each of us takes full responsibility for our contributions, going above and beyond to make a positive impact.

Being an owner means being proactive, always seeking ways to improve our processes, products, and ourselves. We don’t shy away from challenges or problems that may fall outside the boundaries of our job descriptions. You won’t hear any Tectonaut say, “Not my job,” and walk away. Instead, we embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation. We hold ourselves accountable and honor our commitments, ensuring we never let each other down.

Every Tectonaut owns a meaningful part of Tecton and that shows in the care and stewardship we bring to our work every day.

Value #3: Fast, but Focused

Agility and adaptability are core to our successes and how we achieve our goals. We believe in taking action and making progress swiftly, have a bias for action, and understand that delays can impede our growth and hinder our ability to seize opportunities. If something can be accomplished today, we don’t wait until tomorrow.

We also recognize the importance of maintaining focus in the longer term. We organize ourselves to enable fast iteration, but we also prioritize strategic thinking and deliberate decision-making. By finding the balance between speed and focus, we can move rapidly while ensuring our actions align with our long-term objectives.

Our new values embody the essence of who we are and how we want to succeed. 

You may be surprised to find only 3 cultural values when so many other companies have 10 or more. The reason for this is focus. We want to ensure that it’s crystal clear to everybody what matters here at Tecton, without diluting the message. And what matters here is customers, ownership, and fast execution.
